چکیده

We prove that the reciprocal of the volume of the polar bodies, about the Santaló point, of a shadow system of convex bodies Kt, is a convex function of t. Thus extending to the non-symmetric case a result of Campi and Gronchi. The case that the reciprocal of the volume is an affine function of t is also investigated and is characterized under certain conditions. We apply these results to prove exact reverse Santaló inequality for polytopes in R that have at most d + 3 vertices.

An Application of Shadow Systems to Mahler's Conjecture

We elaborate on the use of shadow systems to prove a particular case of the conjectured lower bound of the volume product P(K) = minz∈int(K) |K|||K|, where K ⊂ R is a convex body and K = {y ∈ R : (y − z) · (x − z) 6 1 for all x ∈ K} is the polar body of K with respect to the center of polarity z. In particular, we show that if K ⊂ R is the convex hull of two 2-dimensional convex bodies, then P(...

Intrinsic Volumes and Polar Sets in Spherical Space

For a convex body of given volume in spherical space, the total invariant measure of hitting great subspheres becomes minimal, equivalently the volume of the polar body becomes maximal, if and only if the body is a spherical cap. This result can be considered as a spherical counterpart of two Euclidean inequalities, the Urysohn inequality connecting mean width and volume, and the Blaschke-Santa...

On Analysis of Stress Concentration in Curvilinear Anisotropic Deformable Continuum Bodies

In cylindrical continua, hoop stresses are induced due to the circumferential failure. This mainly happens when the cylinder is subjected to mechanical loads which vary in the circumferential directions. On the other hand, radial stress is stress in the direction of or opposite to the central axis of a cylindrical body. In the present study, the influence of curvilinear anisotropy on the radial...

Convex Forms That Are Not Sums of Squares

An orbitope is the convex hull of an orbit of a point under the action of a compact group. We derive bounds on volumes of sections of polar bodies of orbitopes, extending methods developed in [BB03]. As an application we realize the cone of convex forms as a section of the cone of nonnegative bi-homogeneous forms and estimate its volume. A convex form has to be nonnegative, but it has not been ...

Covering shadows with a smaller volume

For n ≥ 2 a construction is given for convex bodies K and L in R n such that the orthogonal projection Ku can be translated inside Lu for every direction u, while the volumes of K and L satisfy Vn(K) > Vn(L). A more general construction is then given for n-dimensional convex bodies K and L such that the orthogonal projection Kξ can be translated inside Lξ for every k-dimensional subspace ξ of R...
